Starved Rock State Park

We got back from our family reunion today...Pete's dad's side of the family. The event was held at Starved Rock state park, and we had a great time!
It's late and Henry needs stories, but here are a few highlights...
Henry said he had two favorite parts. One was "standing under the bison".
Here are my two sweeties on a fun bench inside the lodge.
Friday was beautiful and we took a walk with Liz up to the Starved Rock itself.
Here is Henry experiencing his second favorite part of the trip....the swimming pool!!!
Saturday was a little drizzly, but it didn't stop us from enjoying a trolley/boat/trolley tour. This part was where we got on the old-tyme canal boat, which was actually pulled by a mule!
Here's the whole crew this morning, sporting our Herr's potato chip company caps (no relation).
And the immediate family. Notice that Van and I are the only ones wearing our Herrs caps.
Grrrr.
Liz and I found many fashionable shopping temptations in the gift shop.
The kids also loved the elevator and the luggage cart.
There were some cool carvings throughout the main grounds, but Henry especially loved this concrete sculpture. He insisted it was a tarantula.
On our way home we scored some sweet corn. It was excellent. I wish I had gotten two dozen instead of just one!!
Here's Clara with her first ear of corn ever. She's a natural!

I hope you to see you in those glasses next week! That picture of Clara with the corn is so sweet!
