Independence Day

Our day started with "pancakes in the park" in the Village Green. The event started at 7AM, which is when Pete and I both woke up, hungry for pancakes. But we decided to let Henry sleep in, so we didn't get to the pancakes until about 8:30. It was good timing, as the line grew exponentially after we went through. We were pleased to find that the pancakes were tasty and warm! Henry got a balloon and had lots of fun with that throughout the day.

After breakfast Henry had a chance to play with some of the Greenbriar girls who were around. He loves to be the center of attention!

On our way home we took note of all the chairs holding places for the parade- which wasn't to start until 2:30. We got a little nervous, but we ended up finding a nice spot anyway. We weren't in the shade, but the weather was lovely, so it didn't matter.

We did try to put Henry in the shade, however, since he had fallen asleep on the walk over. He slept through the first half of the parade....fire trucks, polka bands and all.

He finally did wake up, and Bampa was eager to get him out of his stroller and point out all of the marching bands. Our favorite was the one from Dubuque, IA. They wrapped up the whole parade and sounded great! Henry marched right along.

Afterwards, we went home and got set to barbecue!

Henry wore his party shoes...

We had a nice group of friends and family, and our little bunny friend even ventured out boldly to join the party.

Henry was once again surrounded by adoring fans. No wonder he likes reading so much...what little boy wouldn't love to read with these girls as your reading partners?

We hung out on the patio until the fireworks started. We could see them through the trees, but we decided to try for a closer look, so we started off down the street. We stopped a few houses down where we had a pretty clear view through some trees. I don't think the neighbors would have minded us standing in their yard....but they weren't home anyway. The fireworks were lovely! I had a very enjoyable evening! I hope everyone joins us again next year. We especially look forward to hearing more explosive stories from Tristan!
